get to know
Kimberly Peters, DMD

After practicing dentistry for over a decade, Dr. Peters says that the best thing about her job is simply being part of a team that takes pride in providing excellent and personalized dental care. Everyone values what we are doing and wants to give the patients the kind of attention that leaves a lasting impression as well as a gorgeous smile. She and the rest of our staff look forward to treating you like your own family.

why did you decide to become a dentist?

Dr. Peters had always wanted to be in a science-based field. She even knew she wanted to pursue healthcare but was uncertain as to which direction to go. She explored many different occupations, and none of them felt right in the way that dentistry did. Dentistry is the combination of science and art. You use your hands to create functional and aesthetic results, but you also need plenty of technical and clinical knowledge. When you combine this with the fact that she had undergone several dental procedures as a young adult and experienced firsthand how dentistry can affect one’s confidence, it became a simple decision.

where did you study dentistry?

Dr. Peters graduated from the University of Georgia before earning her DMD at the Medical College of Georgia, which is now known as the Augusta University Dental College of Georgia. Throughout her career, she has completed several hours of continuing education through the Hinman Dental Society and consistently works to expand her knowledge and skills to better serve our patients.

outside of the dental office, what do you like to do?

Dr. Peters and her husband, Joe, have two wonderful children, Cameron and James, as well as a black lab mix who is a rescue from the Humane Society, Rory. As you can imagine, being a full-time parent and full-time business owner doesn't allow for a lot of hobbies—you’ll usually find her reading in her less busy moments. Besides that, many weekends see the entire family riding their bikes around Decatur.

Story Time

"Before we had kids, my husband and I enjoyed traveling. I have made it to five of the seven continents. In dental school, I traveled to Peru to complete a dental rotation. We climbed Machu Picchu and experienced the beauty of Cusco. After dental school, I traveled to Australia and New Zealand. I snorkeled at the Great Barrier Reef and actually encountered a reef shark face-to-face. Luckily those sharks are much, much smaller than great whites and so are their teeth. We have been to Rio De Janeiro and walked along the beaches of Ipanema. For our honeymoon, we traveled to South Africa. We went on a safari and also took a boat out to see the great white sharks hunting off the Cape of Good Hope. Honestly, I sound far more adventurous than I am, but when you have a good partner, you can go far.”
